I’m an Expressive Arts Therapist and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor. I offer private sessions for individuals and couples. I also lead expressive arts workshops and special events.
What is Expressive Arts Therapy?
In expressive arts therapy, we provide a safe container to allow the transformative power of the arts to come through. When immersed in creative exploration, we experience a different way of being than in our daily lives. This allows us to gain insight, see new perspectives and uncover unseen resources.
A typical therapy session will start with us talking about what is currently present in your life, and then we will move into an exploration with the arts. We may use a combination of modalities including painting, sculpture, collage, poetry, storytelling, movement, and sound. After the arts-based exploration, we have time for reflection and closing.
In group settings, working with the expressive arts allows multiple layers to unfold. Each person brings something to the group dynamic making it a truly unique process every time. This opportunity allows participants to discover aspects of their personal and interpersonal lives by being present to what is emerging for others.
No previous experience with the arts is required for either individual or group work. This work is process-oriented rather than product-oriented, however, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised at what you do make!
